NonFinito

Artport's artists-in-residence group exhibition

Artport’s annual residency exhibition, “Nonfinito,” has, since its inception, been grounded in the understanding that artmaking cannot be reduced to the finished object installed in the gallery. The unfinished is the process, the search, and the constant movement taking place in the studios on Artport’s two upper floors, as well as on the terrace, in the lounge, and during the group’s weekly gatherings.

Roy Menachem Markovich builds a studio within a studio, revealing the inner workings of the artistic practice; Oree Holban uses soft, malleable plasticine to explore romantic scars and an elastic identity; Naama Roth highlights the image’s reflection and fragmentation through her work with television screens; Yasmin Davis turns her gaze to the moment of catharsis in artmaking, which holds both joy and the threat of annihilation; Jonathan Omer Mizrahi removes a billboard from the neighboring building, unearthing alternative histories and narratives; Noa Yafe draws the curtain back, lets the eye adjust to the darkness, and invites us to attend to what has been there all along, yet often goes unnoticed.

Instead of a finished product or a conclusive narrative, the exhibition introduces the work of art as an ongoing act, unravelling the seams of reality on its way toward creating a new one.
