Yasmin Davis
Yasmin Davis (b. 1981, Isarel) is a video artist residing in Tel Aviv. She is a graduate of the Beit-Berl School of Art B.A and Post Graduate Fine Arts Program.
As a video artist, Davis observes her own observation mechanism, no less than she does her object of observation. The limits of the medium and its methods drive her creative process, fostering a dialogue with the language of cinema and prompting a reconsideration of her own artistic language. In her works, she gives the camera a central role—as an active observer that breathes life into the inanimate and blurs the boundaries between the active and passive, as well as between the real and the illusory. She avoids effects and editorial manipulations, allowing the film to unfold according to predetermined principles.
In 2016 she won the cultural ministry’s award for young video artist. Her video works have been exhibited in numerous exhibitions and festivals in Israel and abroad, including: Tel Aviv Museum of Art, The Artists Residence (Herzliya), Petach Tikva Museum of Art, Moby: Museums of Bat Yam, The Center for Digital Art (Holon), Tel Aviv Artists’s Studios, Minus 1 gallery (Tel-Aviv), Oded Shatil Liberman 8 gallery (Tel-Aviv), HaMidrasha gallery (Tel-Aviv), The New Gallery Artists’ Studios Teddy (Jerusalem), JFF Jerusalem Film Festival, EPOS International Art Film Festival (Tel Aviv Museum of Art), L’art Dans Les Chapelles, Domaine de Kerguehennec (Brittany), FIDMarseille International Film Festival (Marseille); FIAC International Contemporary Art Fair (Paris), Hong-Gah museum -Taiwan International Video Art Exhibition (Taipei), “Palais Ducal” The Parc Saint Léger – Contemporary Art Center (Nevers), Contexts International Sokolowsko Festival of Ephemeral Art (Poland) and more.
