Niv Gafni

Niv Gafni (b. 1991), is a sound artist, sculptor, composer, and curator living and working in Tel Aviv.

His body of work ranges from large scale installations to abstract sound works. At the core of his practice is an engagement with the invisible, the enigmatic force that drives life, and the field between humans and everything that is nonhuman. Approaching sound as a form of existence, a mode of thought, a form of behavior, and pure energy, Gafni creates environments that encourage listening and observation as a gateway to a primal encounter with our surroundings and the world. He harnesses the abstract qualities of sound to create systems of movement, form, and space that shift between matter and spirit, the conscious and the unconscious, the human and the posthuman. His works seek to move beyond cultural, aesthetic, and intellectual patterns through complex environments in which objects, the air between things, time, and processes of transformation are perceived as parts of a single whole.

Gafni has presented solo and duo exhibitions at the Petach Tikva Museum of Art, Shechter Gallery in Tel Aviv, Musrara Gallery, Mamuta Art and Media Center, and Hazira in Jerusalem. His work has been presented at the Israel Museum, Manofim Contemporary Art Festival, Jerusalem Design Week, the Center for Contemporary Art in Arad, Art Cube Artists’ Studios in Jerusalem, and NARS Foundation in New York, among others. A permanent sculpture by Gafni is installed in the public space of Tel Aviv.

Gafni graduated with honors from the Department of New Music at the Musrara School of Art, where he has been teaching since 2022. From 2025 to 2026, he served as curator of Hamiffal Gallery in Jerusalem. He received the Israeli Ministry of Culture and Sports Young Artist Award in 2022 and has participated in residency programs including NARS Foundation in New York, and ST.A.I.R in Graz, Austria.
