Ron Asulin
Ron Asulin (b. 1990) is a graduate of Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design (B.F.A) and UCLA (M.F.A). He is a sculptor and installation artist. Working with used objects, he seeks ways to manipulate, outwit, and rebuild his everyday environment. Asulin looks within the mechanisms of these objects for social, cultural, and political structures that take physical form, allowing him to turn them into malleable material. In this sense, his works operate as tools for transmitting information and for training a gaze that penetrates inward, into the inner logic of the objects and the agendas they embody. In his encounter with the found object, and through the formal manipulation he imposes on it, he searches for a way out of those familiar and generic structures—for an exit from one and the possibility of entering another.
His sculptures capture this movement as a movement through space, or as a conceptual shift between one meaning and another. This movement echoes the ideas of detachment and estrangement that lie at the core of the readymade. His work traces the loss of an object’s original meaning and expresses both the difficulty and the potential inherent in this process: the pain of metamorphosis and adaptation to a new structure, but also the possibility of self-expression and the capacity to imagine and create new anchors of meaning.
His work has been exhibited in solo, duo, and group exhibitions, among them at the Petach Tikva Museum of Art (solo, 2025), Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design (solo, Jerusalem, 2025), the Uri Lifshitz Building (group, Tel Aviv, 2025), Minus 1 gallery (group, Tel Aviv, 2023), Moby Bat-Yam Museum of Art (group, 2022), Atelier Shemi (duo, Kabri, 2021), and at Offnobank (solo, Tel Aviv, 2021). His work was supported by grants from institutions such as the America-Israel Cultural Foundation, Outset Foundation, Mifal HaPayis, Nazarian Foundation and Art-Now foundation. In 2024 Asulin was awarded the Elovik-Bezalel Prize for Excellence in Art and the Young Artist Award of the Ministry of Culture.
