Moran Kliger

Moran Kliger (b. 1981) is an Israeli artist based in Tel Aviv. She graduated with honors from the Department of Design and Art at Shenkar College of Engineering, Design and Art (2007), and completed the Postgraduate Fine Arts Program at the Hamidrasha Faculty of the Arts, Beit Berl Academic College (2013).

Kliger’s work explores the tension and interplay between culture and nature, and the meeting point between tangible reality and mythic imagination. Drawing on narratives and imagery embedded in the collective cultural memory, including mythological and biblical stories alongside references to art history, she examines how myths and historical images continue to resonate, evolve, and acquire new meanings within contemporary cultural contexts.

Working across the spectrum between figurative and abstract drawing, Kliger employs a wide range of techniques and materials, including engraving on painted paper, pyrography on plywood, ink, graphite and charcoal drawing, printmaking, and mixed-media processes. Her practice is rooted in a slow, meticulous working method centered on the development of drawing series, in which drawing functions as a primary space for investigation, experimentation, and conceptual inquiry. Beginning with free and intuitive sketches, images and ideas gradually evolve into highly detailed, large-scale drawings. In many cases, these works extend beyond the two-dimensional surface and develop into site-specific installations.

Kliger’s work has been presented in solo and group exhibitions in Israel and internationally, including at L’SPACE Gallery, New York (2025); the South African Jewish Museum, Cape Town (2024); the Eretz Israel Museum, Tel Aviv (2023); the Petach Tikva Museum of Art (2022); Noga Gallery, Tel Aviv (2020); the Kyocera Museum of Art, Kyoto, Japan (2019); the Tel Aviv Museum of Art (2018); Basis Gallery, Herzliya (2018); and the OpenArt Biennale, Örebro, Sweden (2017).

She has received numerous grants, awards, and artist residencies, including the Plumas Foundation Grant and the Ann & Ari Rosenblatt Award for Visual Art (2024); the Independent Artists Fund Grant (2023); the Mifal HaPais Incubator Award for an exhibition at the Petach Tikva Museum of Art (2021); First Prize in the Drawing Category at the International Competition of the Krasnodar Regional Art Museum, Russia (2019); an artist residency at Cité Internationale des Arts, Paris (2018); the Mifal HaPais Artist’s Book Award (2017); and a full fellowship for the Fountainhead Residency, Miami, USA (2015).

Kliger’s works are held in public and private collections in Israel and abroad, including the collections of the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, the South African Jewish Museum in Cape Town, and the Krasnodar Regional Art Museum in Russia, as well as the private collections of Dubi Shiff and Art Partners (Gil Brandes).

Moran Kliger is represented by Noga Gallery for Contemporary Art, Tel Aviv.
